Help, T3 via HDMI has no sound but picture is fine.
Hi,
I have just swapped in my old T3 for my T4 while I look at getting it repaired.
I updated to the beta firmware 19.3.20200405 (19.3-307-g219bda9) and performed a full setup, including region scan.
I now have perfect picture, but no audio.
The T3 is connected using the same HDMI cable as the T4 was, to a Denon X4500.
I have played with all the audio settings I can find, rebooted (both Beyonwiz and Denon), to no avail.
I have re-seated the HDMI cable at both ends, no luck.
I have played back a recording made on the T4, no volume.
I have checked the volume on the T3, and ensured that it is not muted.
Any other help would be greatly appreciated as I would love to leave this in place while by T4 is repaired.
I have played for about 2 hours now and gotten nothing, so a clue is needed.
Thanks.
Mark.

Re: Help, T3 via HDMI has no sound but picture is fine.
Most likely it is because the T3 is connecting to your TV/Amp on a pretty that has HDMi enhanced deep colour enabled.
You'll want to connect the T3 directly into one of the TV's HDMI ports and disable deep colour on that port.
The T3 chipset is a bit older and not fully HDMI 1.4 compatible whereas the T4 chipset is slightly newer which is why the T4 works.
You've most likely upgraded your TV and amp at some point between retiring the T3 and using the T4 full time, so this is the first time using the T3 with the new equipment?

Re: Help, T3 via HDMI has no sound but picture is fine.
Yes! I now have a 4K AV receiver and TV..
Sounds promising.
I shall disable the deep colour.
Give me a few minutes to figure this out, I shall get back with the results.

Mr Quade!
You, sir, are a legend, lifesaver, and all around great guy.
I think you saved me from another couple of hours pain and suffering, I would never have picked that at all.
I owe you 1 drink of your choice if/when I ever get to meet you.
So,
That worked perfectly, thank you..
Thanks.

Re: Help, T3 via HDMI has no sound but picture is fine.
The simple solution, for those in the same situation as I was, is to just set the Denon input HDMI to 'standard' not 'enhanced'.
No recabling required, simple configuration.

Re: Help, T3 via HDMI has no sound but picture is fine.
Not a problem!
It's rather a hard one to pick since you lose sound by changing what appears to be a "colour" setting.
Just make sure you have the T3 connected via its own port, so that it doesn't affect your other 4K devices like your Shield and Oppo. Disabling Deep Colour on a port will prevent you from using HDR+ and Dolby Vision on that port.
If you set your Receiver to standard mode instead of enhanced, then that will disable enhanced mode for all devices that are connected to the receiver.

Re: Help, T3 via HDMI has no sound but picture is fine.
You don't have too - I had the same problem with a T2 connected to an Onkyo AVR that had great video but no audio.
Connect the Tx to the AVR, Leave your AVR set as Enhanced - Use the audio output from the T2 via SPDIF to connect to the AVR - works a treat
The Onkyo has the ability to set Standard or Enhanced, but it is global not on individual inputs so used that method to get audio from the T2
p.s. Rang Ambertech (Onkyo distributor) and they gave me the solution straight away as they knew all about it, very good customer support.
Re: Help, T3 via HDMI has no sound but picture is fine.
Hopefully the T4 will be back in operation again soon.
The Oppo only uses the Denon for sound at this time, I have it directly connected to the TV for video. This was due to my old Denon 3808 dying earlier in the year and being replaced with the x4500h in rather a hurry. I never got around to re-cabling as it all just worked when I changed the AVR.
If/when I get to sort out that configuration I will leave a HDMI port for the T3 to connect to the TV and use optical for the sound in that scenario.
Here is hoping that the T4 is able to be resurrected by Warkus' tender ministrations.

But you should look into hooking the Oppo up to the new receiver so that you can benefit from HD audio as well. I am guessing the audio from the Oppo is currently via optical? You'd be limited to the regular lossy DD and DTS audio in that instance.
All good though. Hopefully the T4 comes back in one piece. Those units are little beasts

Re: Help, T3 via HDMI has no sound but picture is fine.
The only thing wrong with the 3808 was that the power button failed and would not stay on!
I had to put a block of rubber between the lip of the cabinet and the button to hold it on. That worked for the 2 weeks it took me to realise I could not get a replacement button, could not fix the button, and needed a new AVR. The X4500 is fine.
I will sort out the HDMI issues soon..
P.S. The Oppo is connected via HDMI, but only for audio.. The Oppo has 2 HDMI ports for just this scenario. Lucky!

Re: Help, T3 via HDMI has no sound but picture is fine.
I am having a 'no sound' problem with a T2. My U4 has packed up and I resurrected my old T2. As with others on this thread, I have upgraded to a LG 4K since I last used the T2. I don't use any sound system as I am happy enough with the TV speakers (I have a hearing impediment so all these fancy sound systems make no difference to me). I have the TV connected to the T4 by HDMI and have tried all the video outputs as suggested and also connecting by optical cable but still have no sound. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Help, T3 via HDMI has no sound but picture is fine.
You just have to turn off "HDMI Deep Colour" on the input that the T2 plugs into.
The setting can be found under "General". It's *not* in the picture settings.
Optical won't help you, because the TV doesn't have an optical input.

Re: Help, T3 via HDMI has no sound but picture is fine.
Thank you very much for your quick reply. Unfortunately there is no "HDMI Deep Colour" in the General or any other menu on the LG and this TV has an optical input and have set it for this and the other option of TV speakers and optical with no success. The only options for individual HDMI individual inputs are under sound and the choices are either bitstream or PCM both of which I have tried with no success.
Re: Help, T3 via HDMI has no sound but picture is fine.
It should do. Any UHD TV from LG should have this setting. Mine definitely does.
What is your TV's exact model number?
No, your TV has a optical OUTPUT, not an optical INPUT. The optical port on the TV is supposed to go off to an external amplifier or set of speakers.carljh wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 14:36and this TV has an optical input and have set it for this and the other option of TV speakers and optical with no success. Re: Help, T3 via HDMI has no sound but picture is fine.
You are right of course about the optical, I always get my inputs and outputs mixed up. My TV is a UM7600PTA and I have been through all the menu items and cannot find this setting. I have attached a screenshot of the General settings menu.
As my U4 has done a lot of work and am sure it would not be worth repairing, have ordered a V2 so guess I will have to rely on my Fetch box for recording until it arrives. Thank you so much for your help

Yep confirmed for carljh's TV too.
It is under "Picture->HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Colour".
the settings can be disabled per-port.
