OpenATV 6.5/7 Python3 what's going on?

Anyone know what they are up to with OpenATV at the moment?

I had been playing around with the 6.5 image for a while when the 6.4 bootloader was broken on the V2, but at the time, it was very very beta and most of the plugins were still broken.

I have since switched back to the more stable 6.4 image and been more or less satisfied with it.

However, I now see there is an even newer 7 image being played with. Did they ever finish the 6.5 Python upgrade? It's been taking its sweet time!
And what is the purpose of 7 if they still haven't sorted 6.5?

I've tried making sense of the OpenATV forum, but it there doesn't seem to be much of an announcements mechanism there, or any other stickys that explain the situation.
