There's no information about the crash in that log file. I suspect it's the log file from when the system restarted after the crash.

You need either the Enigma2_crash file with about the same timestamp, or the Enigma2-datetime log file with the first timestamp before the one you posted.

Also, when you say "Crash when exiting from OverlayHD either by pressing Exit or Red (Cancel)," what do you mean? Exiting from what, for example?

Hi Robert,

Prl beat me to it but there is no useful information in that log. (The crash itself was not captured in that log.)

This is the cause:

Code: Select all

{28921}<100531.297>   File "/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/OverlayHD/plugin.py", line 584, in confirmCancel
{28921}<100531.297> AttributeError: 'OverlayHDSkinManager' object has no attribute 'cancelMsg'
and indeed, in OverlayHDSkinManager.confirmCancel(), self.cancelMsg doesn't appear to get set anywhere. It should be set to some sort of "Really close without saving settings?" message.

Hi,

The value self.cancelMsg comes from an updated ConfigList.py that I am developing but is not yet in production. There is a lot of replicated code that I intend to remove in an updated Setup.py, ConfigList.py and config.py and unfortunately a few of the changes were left in the OverlayHD plugin that I am using in my testing.

I have corrected the problem and am running some tests. When testing is done I will release a small update to fix this issue. If you are using my feed the changes will be offered as soon as they are ready.

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian,

Not sure if this has been brought up before, and whether it can be done, but would it be at all possible to add all the OverlayHD settings to the OpenWebif web client to allow us to adjust all the settings easily? Also, an EPG GUI Designer that is done on the PC?

I finally got around to upgrading my T4 firmware from 4.4 to the latest 17.5 version and it was painful to design the EPG colour pallet again without a way of seeing it as I go. Eg. I'd change a colour of an item, save it, reboot the GUI, open the EPG, check it, realize it looks crap, close it, go back into the plugin settings, change the colour to the next one, rinse and repeat until all components have the right colours. In the end, I just made do with something that looked reasonable because it was taking so long.

What would be really nice is some web client (like OpenWebif) or some other web client, or even a windows application that allows you to design the EPG GUI in real time seeing the changes as you make them etc. It would be so much quicker, and be super helpful for coming up with a good colour scheme.

Is this possible?

Also, just to clarify, whatever designer is created doesn't need to update the Beyonwiz in any way. It just needs to allow us to see all the settings and properties so we can manually update them on the Beyonwiz. That way we don't have to keep re-loading the GUI, and jumping in and out of the plugin, epg, etc.

I might be able to tweak OpenSkin Designer so it edits all the colour settings and changes them immediately. With a bit of jiggery-pokery might even be able to update the settings directly.

I can't work out how to use the Openskin designer. How do I even start with it? I've installed it, but when I open it, the New option is greyed out and the Open option doesn't give me a dialog box to open a skin, and then how do I get a skin to open with it anyway?

I was thinking more along the lines of having a sample EPG with all the OverlayHD colour options available, and when you change the colours of the various options available in the plugin, you get a live representation of what the EPG looks like.

I might have a play around in Visual Basic when I get the chance. I haven't programmed in years though so I may not be very successful anytime soon.

Ian, are you able to advise all the RGB or Hex codes for all the different colours available in OverlayHD?

There are two ways to get the skin: use something that works with tar files (7-zip, bsdtar, or tar itself with a recent 10) to extract the OverlayHD .ipk file and the resulting data.tar.gz, then move usr\share\enigma2\OverlayHD into the designer's skins directory; alternatively, if you have a network, copy that directory directly from the box to skins. You'll also want to edit the designer's xml\previewText.xml to populate the EPG lists, although that's not going to work with individual items. E.g.

Code: Select all

	<screen>
		<name>GraphicalEPG</name>
		<entries>
			<entry name='list' value='one|two|three' type='string'/>
		</entries>
	</screen>
Sorry, maybe it's not all that useful, after all.

The colour definitions for OverlayHD are in the <colors/> and <windowstyle/> elements in /usr/share/enigma2/OverlayHD/skin.xml on the Beyonwiz. There are a lot (300+) of them.

The ones using the form "#aarrggbb" are hex ARGB values, where A is transparency, 0->opaque, 0xff->completely transparent. The others are renamings of colours. IIRC the recolouring in OverlayHD is done by manipulating the renamings for particular UI objects and colour usages, e.g. change <color name="EPGBackground" value="Black" /> to be assigned to some other named colour.

To look at how that manipulation is done, you need to look at the OverlayHD plugin source (especially plugin.py). Warning: this pushes the envelope of how code is supposed to interact with the skin :)

Awesome. Thanks Peter. I've got the file and it's perfect. I won't bother with the transparency side of things I'll just take the last 6 digits of the Hex code for the correct colours so all good.

Hi Gleff,

Did you look at the colour chart I provided? https://iansav.bitbucket.io/OverlayHD.html

Adding OverlayHD settings to OpenWebif is beyond the scope if the skin.

Work is currently being investigated on OpenViX to allow skins to be reloaded or changed WITHOUT requiring a GUI restart. Given Beyonwiz's recent change in direction for firmware development I don't know if the feature will ever get to Beyonwiz firmware.

Ian.

Unfortunately I can't answer this question. I have been banned and excluded from all V2 development information.

The software changes (pull requests) I submitted about six months ago to implement some new standards that are implemented in OverlayHD are still not merged in the Beyonwiz image. I have not seen the new Beyonwiz 19.3 firmware code so I don't know if any of my new code (that is now implemented and standard in the OpenATV, OpenPLi, OpenViX and other images) has been implemented into the Beyonwiz firmware.

I'm sorry I can't give you any better or more definitive news. This situation is completely out of my hands.

Ian.

Are you already using a V2, or is this a pre-purchase question?

I just loaded OverlayHD onto a V2 running 20190628, and it worked just fine, though I didn't test it much. I think some others also tested it during pre-release testing, but I'm not sure how much of a workout it got. There shouldn't be issues with running it on earlier V2 firmware. If you want to know whether it works on any particular V2 release let me know, and I'll try it.

I don't use OverlayHD myself. There may be some V2 users who are already using OverlayHD who may be able to comment further. I don't recall anyone posting that OverlayHD was broken on the V2.

Hi Prl,

The version of OverlayHD on the Beyonwiz is not the latest. I didn't push the latest versions to Beyonwiz because I don't think it will work correctly. The three immediate areas of issue are:
  • OverlayHD now users the BUTTONGUIDE recommendation for triggering buttons in the UI. In this case the HELP button. PeterU refuses to merge the pull request that activates this feature for Beyonwiz users.
  • Beyonwiz does not use the current NumericalTextInput code. OpenATV, OpenPLi and OpenViX have adopted this code a while ago so OverlayHD has been upgraded to support the new version.
  • Beyonwiz does not use the current VirtualKeyBoard code. OpenATV, OpenPLi and OpenViX have adopted this code a while ago so OverlayHD has been upgraded to support the new version.
There may be other issues but it has been a while since I was excluded from the recent Beyonwiz change discussions.

Ian.

I'm already using the V2I'm on the 19.3.20190623 FW, I'll give it a try this week. I was just concerned it might break something on the V2 by installing it.

Is there a setting to make the current position tag "Transparent", so it is possible to see any "hidden" tags obscured by the current position marker?

Hi Henk,

Yes this has been done in the later versions of OverlayHD.

I have attached the new thumb with a transparent strip to allow the markers to show through. Just copy the attached file and replace the file of the same name on your system "/usr/share/enigma2/OverlayHD/sliders/pointer.png".

OverlayHD is already an option for installation if the feed server package is installed. The issue is that all newer versions of OverlayHD are no longer compatible with Beyonwiz firmware.

Can you please tell me in what file/directory the settings are saved (when you click Save in the skin manager)? I want to copy them from the U4 to the V2 (both running v1.70) which would save me hours of doing it all manually. :D

Re: OverlayHD issue after firmware update

Post by raj » Sun Dec 19, 2021 15:07

G'day,

I just applied the latest firmware update "beyonwiz-19.3-beyonwizt2-20211010" to my T2 and noticed something odd.

I have very good TV reception here and both signal quality and signal strength are 100% and normally stay there. After applying this latest update, the infobar shows both at 100%, however now there is a flashing background that has "BIT ERROR DETECTED". There is no picture break up and no issue with recording. The same two indicators have no oddities with other skins.

Just thought I'd report it.
