DHCP

Post by Twizzle » Tue Apr 16, 2024 16:25

Hi
I have just changed my U4 from wifi connection to LAN using an ethernet cable and the Automatic Configuration of the DHCP which was turned off has now been turned on when I set the LAN up. Is this the correct setting or should I turn it off again?

Ideally, you should use DHCP.

Even better is to set up your router so that it gives your U4 a fixed IP address via DHCP too.

Doing this will make sure that your U4 registers itself with your router's DNS server, so you can access it easily by name "BeyonwizU4".

Not all routers will register the Beyonwiz's name in their local DNS. For example, the Huawei router/modem that my ISP supplied does not do this, and that's one of the reasons why I don't use it (it doesn't support fixing DHCP-assigned IP addresses, either).

It's probably more accurate to say that using DHCP will register the Beyonwiz's network name in the router's DNS server if the router has that capability.
