Clock doesn’t increment past the hour in standby - solved

Post by sub3R » Sun Dec 20, 2015 13:23

This has been covered before but applying the initial search results I came up with didn’t solve the issue (perhaps I misinterpreted those search results).

Issue:
In standby the DP-S1 front clock wouldn’t increment past the hour & reverted to the time it was switched to standby instead. The time kept looping through this cycle.
To quote from a post by Dave®: “At the 'hour' the time goes back to the time when you switched it to standby. i.e. Switch to standby at 10:32. Then approx 1/2 hour later instead of going 10:58, 10:59, 11:00, 11:01 it goes 10:58, 10:59, 10:32, 10:33 etc.”

Step 1:
I replaced the 14.7456MHz crystal (HC49S series labelled Y1) on the front panel PCB as per one forum post.
Results: This didn’t fix the issue.

Step 2:
I replaced the 32.768kHz (radial cylinder crystal labelled Y2) on the front panel PCB.
Results: Issue fixed.

It appears that the 32.768kHz crystal labelled Y2 was the cause of the issue.

The above components are on the front panel PCB near the IR sensor (J1). I didn’t solder the 32.768kHz crystal case to the PCB track as per the original crystal – I used non-acetic silastic to secure the end.

Crystals used:
AEL Crystals X14M745600L225 Crystal, 14.745600MHz HC49S Series.
ABRACON AB26T-32.768KHZ Crystal, 32.768kHz, 12.5pF, Cylinder.
Both sourced from Element14.

I hope this will help anyone with this problem.
