Component Input to LIDIC
Component Input to LIDIC
Will Beyonwiz ever upgrade the LIDIC to allow component video input and get the aspect ratio correct.

Hi BP3,
If the LiDiC was ever upgraded to accept component inputs then I suspect that the resolution will be limited to 576i. Movie studios are hardly likely to accept or allow devices that can copy HD content. If the resolution is to be limited then the justification for the hardware upgrade is seriously diminished.
As for the aspect ration problems, I am not a LiDiC owner but I thought this issue had been addressed in a firmware update. Perhaps an owner can pipe in and let us know the status.
Regards,
Ian.

However component is to be phased out in new equipment for HD signals

The aspect ratio for Full Screen Input with 16:9 output was fixed some time ago for the 1.05.xxx series firmware. The 1.07.xxx series firmware has always been and is still broken in this regard.IanSav wrote:As for the aspect ration problems, I am not a LiDiC owner but I thought this issue had been addressed in a firmware update. With Centre Cut input or 4:3LB or 4:3PS output the code is broken for all firmwares.
Thanks for all that feedback. I have since discovered there are a few DVD recorders and a Topfield PVR that have component video input. On that subject - I thought Beyonwiz was the only PVR with external recording capability.IanSav wrote:Hi J s,As you say there is little technical restriction but there are other pressures that the movie studios can apply.j s wrote:AFAIK there is no method of restricting capture of component input. Nope, not the only one. Beyonwiz was the first generally available PVR to offer this feature. There have been other PVRs (not available via normal retail channels) that had MPEG-4 encoding of SD analogue video inputs well before Beyonwiz announced the feature.BP3 wrote:I thought Beyonwiz was the only PVR with external recording capability.

The Topfield TF2400 and TF2460 have the ability to record from component, but the maximum resolution is 576p.BP3 wrote:... I have since discovered there are a few DVD recorders and a Topfield PVR that have component video input. ...
