When I attempted to create a backup for the U4 I encountered a spinning star and complaint that the target was not writeable and that I should select another location, followed shortly after by a backup done message. OK, so I've done another scheduled test recording with U4 coming out of shutdown and going into shutdown and the cuts file was written just fine and post padding was honoured .... go figure.

I am setting up to test a scheduled recording from standby.

Thanks for the feedback. I've subsequently installed an old small SSD to support timeshift. Disabled the "use as hdd" option but left the recording target directory as the T4. Which has led to a couple more oddities that I will raise as a new discussion.

In a similar situation, I simply rip the DVD to ISO. Then let the wiz play the ISO as a DVD. It is a little bit slow in menu navigation but less hassle that extracting all the discrete episodes etc. You do have to rename the ISO images to something human..
