It's only the driver libraries that check the unit serial number. Adoxa made a patcher to fix that.
I think OpenATV may have different binaries that work on all hardware.

Collectible STB & PVR hardware available
I've been clearing out my office. It's full of unused equipment and it's getting hard to get to the things that I need. There's a pile of old STBs & PVRs of various brands and vintages. Many are pre-production or early production units of the well known Beyonwiz models that used to be ava...

BTW, why has WizOS been removed from the playstore? Those are signs of failed authentication. In a nutshell, you can see the existence of the network, but can not authenticate. If you can't do the secret handshake, you can't have an IP address. I have a vague recollection that (at least back in the T3 days), the changes to some WiFi settings didn't t...

Re: Issue connecting wifi on U4
It's been many, many years since I fiddled with the WiFi connections on a Beyonwiz, but from memory there is a security mode option somewhere in the config. If left in the auto or mixed mode it's unlikely to work with modern WiFi access points. You'll probably want to force this to WPA2 with AES. If...

Probably the easiest option is to go to the toolbox menu and select the gaffer tape option. You may need to apply more than one patch to get the result you are after.

Overscan settings can be per-input. Thus turning overscan off for the Amazon Firestick input does not necessarily mean that overscan will also be turned off for the Beyonwiz input.

Oh, if you can, bring your V2 with you and make sure that the power brick plug makes good contact. Those are 3.5" drives. The datasheet for WD40EFRX shows the peak 12V DC current at 1.75A (that's 21W during spin-up) and sustained power draw between 3.3W (idle) and 4.5W (write 180MB/s). By comparison, a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro drive consumes between 0.055W (idle) and 8.6W (write 6,900MB/s). Power...

I don't think anyone ever made 5.25" 4TB drives. Even if they did, you'd need to take into account that they need both 5V and 12V rails. 5.25" HDD platters are heavy, so it takes a fair bit of power to get them spinning. SSD power draw (and consequently the heat generated) is very variable...

Jaycar will have one. 12V DC, 2.5A. Just under $40. or High quality 12V DC, 5A. Just under $70. It may be overkill for a V2 without peripherals, but it is a high quality unit. It's got enough capacity to be used for other devices, if needed. Don't buy the cheap $20 units of eBay or other marketplace...

It's unlikely (though not impossible) that a lightning strike would give you glitchy HDMI output. The symptoms you describe could be a result of poor or deteriorating cabling / connection. The information given is less than precise, so I'd be inclined to take the details with a grain of salt. I'm fairly confident that the speed was never at 10GB/s. That would imply a connection in the ~100 Gigabit/s category and such throughput is pretty much unattainable with current consumer hardwar...
